AMC Theatres launches crypto payments for e-gift cards
America’s AMC Theatres, is gradually approaching its year-end goal of including cryptocurrency payments with its latest implementation of debuting crypto purchases for e-gift cards.
AMC CEO Adam Aron made an official announcement on October 5 that its customers can now make purchases of digital cards using Bitcoin directly from AMC’s official website, its theatres, and the mobile app.
The new payment mechanism has been enabled through crypto payment processors BitPay. AMC customers can now purchase e-cards for up to $200.
Among other crypto tokens, Aron paid particular attention to Dogecoin for being accepted for AMC e-card purchases. The CEO had earlier in September hinted that AMC would include DOGE among its list of acceptable crypto tokens in its year-end goal of 2021.
Aron had also conducted a Twitter poll asking followers whether AMC should include DOGE in its payment tickets, where 140,000 people responded in affirmative.
Aron had announced the company’s payment tickets would include Bitcoins, back in August 2021. He had said the company expects to roll out payment options for crypto by 2022.
AMC has also expressed that it plans to include other crypto tokens in future, including Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and Ether, in addition to Bitcoin and DOGE.
Before AMC, Thailand’s largest movie theatre operator – Major Cineplex Group, had also launched a payment platform for crypto as a pilot project.
