Binance with Russian Hermitage museum tokenizing Da Vinci and Van Gogh paintings
Binance NFT has announced its partnership with the Saint Petersburg-based State Hermitage Museum to “tokenize” Leonardo Da Vinci and Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpieces for Binance NFT’s marketplace event due next month.
Binance NFT has issued a statement about the event, saying that for the auction to be held next month, it would tokenize artworks and collectibles depicting the works of renowned artists Claude Monet, Giorgione, Da Vinci and Van Gogh. The marketplace released this official statement on July 27, revealing that it would issue nonfungible tokens by August-end after teaming up with the museum. The press release also said that all Binance users would be able to participate in the virtual auction.
As a part of its collaborative effort with the museum, Binance is slated to create two NFT copies of all masterpieces – one of which will be auctioned at the marketplace while the other would be stored at the museum premises. Speaking about the event, Binance added that the auction would include limited edition NFT copies of Giorgione’s Judith, Van Gogh’s Lilac Bush, Da Vinci’s Madonna Litta, and Claude Monet’s Corner of the Garden at Montgeron. Each NFT will be signed by Mikhail Piotrovsky, the Hermitage’s Director. Proceeds from the auction would be extended to The State Hermitage Museum, Piotrovsky said.
Binance describes the aim of this event as granting “a new level of accessibility” to the museum’s prized collection, explaining that the entire project is focused on highlighting the growing “importance of digitalization as a new stage” in the arena of collecting artworks as a hobby.
Head of Binance NFT, Helen Hai, lauded the scheduled event as “another step towards global digitalization,” appreciating Hermitage’s cooperativeness and creativity. She further remarked Binance and Hermitage “together are making history.
