PM candidate of Canada endorses the free use of Bitcoin as money

Pierre Poilievre, the next prime minister candidate for the Canadian Conservative Party, has shown his support for permitting the Canadian people to use Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies as a legal currency in the country.

In a video posted by the BITCOIN channel on Tuesday, Poilievre was seen saying that the Canadian citizen requires better financial freedom in front of a crowd of over 100 people at a neighborhood restaurant. He went on to declare that the Canadian people should use multiple products of blockchain technology, including tokens, decentralized finance (DeFi), crypto and smart contracts. 

According to him, people should possess the fundamental freedom of choice to use other forms of payment and payment methods. If the government can abuse the fiat currency of the country, then the citizens should have the authority to utilize other forms of money or higher quality cash.

At the beginning of the year, the current government of Canada and its prime minister Justin Trudeau had taken an intransigent approach to the Freedom Convoy protest and restricted the exchange and usage of cryptocurrency in the country. The Canadian officials froze the bank accounts of the protesters in January, and the government had also blocked donations made to the truckers, including the ones made in cryptocurrency.
