Snoop drops ‘Decentralized Dogg’ NFT in collaboration with Coldie
Snoop Dogg, the hip hop legend, has recently debuted his first NFT collaboration with artist Coldie as part of the final release in the Decentral Eyes Portrait Series.
The “Decentralized Dogg” NFT was reportedly minted on SuperRare on November 29 at 7:15 PM UTC, slated to be out on the auction on December 3. SuperRare is a digital NFT marketplace catering to digital buyers who are willing to pay up for more exclusive pieces.
The new NFT is a stereoscopic 3D collage of 10 different portraits of the hip hop star Snoop Dogg. The portraits cover various stages throughout his life, which is then underscored by an original NFT-inspired soundtrack created by Snoop. While writing this piece, the highest bid for this was 169 Ether (roughly $760,000) at current prices.
Nick Adler, who has been Snoop’s long-time innovation and investment partner, has informed that the latest NFT drop is just the “beginning of his work in the NFT and art space.”
Adler hinted that depending on the success of NFTs, Snoop would be “absolutely open” to all future collaborations with including Coldie and other NFT artists.” Coldie shared with Cointelegraph that Snoop’s management had directly contacted him for the collaboration through SuperRare.
Adler has also mentioned that Snoop is planning to have an ongoing relationship with the collector or DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) that would end up purchasing the NFT.
He added that for the collaboration, the most interesting things about the current climate was their plan of continuing to evolve with the NFTs. He suggested that the same piece could be used “for other works” that can be either a future album or the cover of a book.
Coldie also informed that Snoop’s management team has considered using the artworks as a part of augmented reality labels in wine bottles, adding that it could lend “so much more value to the collector.”
In the latest interview on NFTs, Snoop said that this technology “inspired” him to rethink how he could work and release his artworks into the world. The best thing about NFTs said that “you don’t just see it, you feel it, and you hear it.”
Snoop said that he wants the piece “to stand out as a representation of his vision” in the metaverse and that it is “decentralized, Decentral eyes.”
Snoop’s NFT description on SuperRare explains that the purple area in the artwork is “a nod to his hip-hop royalty”, while the halftone and grunge effect on the left eye speaks for his being an “OG in the game.” The Doggystyle references celebrate “his epic first release.”
The artwork would be shown at SuperRare’s nftnow x Christie’s trade show titled ‘The Gateway’ at Miami Art Week on December 3. It is slated to make an appearance at the Flagler Street Art Festival on Monolith during its Art Week in downtown Miami between November 30 and December 5.
On September 21, Snoop had announced that he had been using a pseudonym for hiding in plain sight as an NFT Twitter influencer, “Cozomo de’ Medici”. The wallet associated with that account has been reported to have amassed an NFT collection worth over $17 million, which include nine CryptoPunks and a number of marijuana-themed tokens.
Coldie’s NFT collaboration with John Van Hamersveld’s “The Unfolding Dream”, which is in partnership with Async, is also on auction until December 10.
He has shared that a future collaboration with his fellow digital artist Sarah Zucker is on the cards in the coming months.
